To learn a language successfully you must:
1 – Be exposed to the new language. (Hear it, see it,
and speak it.)
尽量接触新语言。(多听，多看，多说)
2 – Understand how it is made. (Its form and
grammar.)
理解它的构成。(它的形式)
3 – Understand it’s meaning. (What words and
phrases mean.)
理解它的意思。(每个单词和句子的意思)
4 – Practice, practice, practice. (Find and speak to
people in English all the time. Take your English teacher out for dinner on a
regular basis – ha, ha, ha.)
练习，练习，再练习。(随时找人练习英语。经常约你的英语老师一起出去吃饭，哈哈哈)
Tips for
learning English

– Have a positive learning attitude. 拥有积极的学习态度。
Don’t just try to get through a class but try to get
as much from the class as you can. Try to get as much from each day as you
can. Gain new experiences, gather new knowledge, and apply what you are
learning.
不要只是上完一节课，而是要试着尽可能从中学到东西。每天尽你自己的最大可能去学习。获取新的经验，积累新的知识并且要应用你学到的内容。
2 – Come to class prepared. 课前预习。
Be prepared mentally and physically. Have that learning
attitude for the mental preparation. Expect to learn something.
Physically, have a note pad, a pen or two. It may be good to have a
highlighter to highlight important things. Make a note when I say this will be
on the test. The idea is to be organized. Have your own system and method for
keeping track of what you are learning.
从心理上和物质上都要准备好。要有积极的学习态度，期望学到新东西。另外准备一个笔记本，一、两支笔。或者你有一支荧光笔更好，你可以用它来标注重点。在我说到考试内容时，请做笔记。这种方法使你的学习更有条理。要有你自己的体系和方法来检查你所学的知识。
3 – Pay attention. 集中注意力。
Pay attention in class. Don’t chat with your
friends about things non-related to your learning. Be alert, sit straight and
even leaning forward a little. Concentrate on what is being taught and
you will learn.
在课堂上集中注意力。不要和朋友谈论与学习无关的事情。保持清醒，保持笔直的坐姿。将精力集中在所教的和将要学的内容上。
4 – Be engaged in the study.
投入到学习中
Take notes as much as you can. Write little side notes
as reminders and extra information to help you better learn and understand the
language. Learning is not a passive act like watching TV. It takes effort and
concentration to focus on what is being said, asking questions, and dialoguing
with the teacher and other students about the material.
尽可能多记笔记。在教材的旁边做一些小的记录作为提示或者额外的信息用以帮助你更好的学习和理解这门语言。学习不像看电视一样，是一件被动的事情。它需要你付诸行动并且集中精力在所说的话题上，要主动提问，和老师和同学就所谈话题进行交流。
5 – Practice, practice,
practice. 练习，练习，再练习。
Repetition is the mother of skill. Don’t limit
your learning to the classroom. Practice the vocabulary you have learned
throughout the day. You have lots of opportunity to use the language with
foreign staff and customers let alone with your co-workers. Don’t be shy,
try, speak and use what you are learning. Find ways to practice. One of my
tutors acts like a parrot. She repeats everything I say. There are many things
you can do. Have cue cards for daily review, etc.
熟能生巧。不要只是局限于教室里学到的东西。你应该整天练习你所学到的词汇。你有很多机会用外语和外国同事和顾客交流，更重要的是不要忽视与同学之间的练习。不要害羞，试着开口运用你所学到的东西。想办法练习。我的一位老师就像鹦鹉，她会重复我说的每一句话。你可以做的事情很多。比如准备小卡片用于日常复习等。
6 – Major mistake. 思想误区
Don’t ever blame the teacher for your
lack of learning. If you have the right attitude and come prepared
expecting to learn you will grow and learn a lot even with a bad teacher. If
you want to learn, you want to grow then you have to take personal
responsibility.
如果你学不到东西不要责怪你的老师。如果你的学习态度端正，能做到课前预习并且期望学习，即使你碰到一个很糟的老师，你也会进步而且学到很多知识。如果你想学习，渴望进步，那么你就必须承担起自己的责任。
